DESCRIPTION: On the planet of Iwagen, Richard and Mara Cheneyhave taken over their late parentsÕ project. They discovered there were latent telepaths among the alien Dur-ill, and started a hospice for telepathic Dur-ill who are going into telepause. They're hoping this will be the beginning of a new generation of telepaths. But there's another party interested in the Dur-ill telepaths, too. A group mind being called the Mentad has been growing on various Dur-ill worlds. The Mentad seeks out telepausal Dur-ill telepaths and absorbs them into itself, becoming a collective consciousness with many bodies. It learns about this hospice, and the Mentad staged a raid on the hospice. When his sister is taken by the Mentad, Richard must seek the aid of The Agency, the same group responsible for wanting his parents dead. With the assistance of new friends and The Agency, Richard will stop at nothing to free his sister and the others from the Mentad's clutches.
